Public Speaking
Public Speaking begins with mindset and self-talk. It includes appropriate pride and appropriate humility, audience attitudes, and how to stop assuming we know what others are thinking of us. No one is as hard on us as we are on ourselves. In this session, participants will listen to their self-talk and learn to let go of past assumptions, definitions, and vocabulary. We will develop plans for balancing acceptance and improvement, leading to more confidence, as well as peace.
Meet our Presenter: Leora Dowling
"When I walked into that classroom I was so excited and confident. When I walked out I was humiliated and defeated. The memory hasn’t completely faded, but the sting has. In fact, I owe my career to that guy because that's when I vowed I would never feel that way again.
"I dropped the class (cowardly, I know), and joined the college radio station (rather brave, considering). And I started to really pay attention. I discovered that effective speakers and communicators have three things in common: they’re confident, they connect, and they use their words, voices, and bodies comfortably. With persistence, practice, and generous teachers, I mastered the fine art of public speaking. I’d be honored to share what I’ve learned with you."
